Sharing is caring!

As a mom of three littles and a caregiver to my MIL with Dementia my home goes through a lot! Between incontinence and potty training its easy to feel like I’m living in a 2000 sq. ft. toilet. My home also happens to be in the middle of a Texas ranch so I often see muddy footprints and various pasture grasses tracked across my floors. Needless to say its a struggle to have a clean home but it can be done! I’ve developed a cleaning arsenal that are MUST HAVES for my fellow sandwiched homemakers (or anyone really!). These supplies will keep your home clean and fresh-smelling without costing a fortune.

 Clorox Urine Remover

This stuff is a miracle spray! Not even joking. It has not only taken out urine stains and smells in mattresses but also my suede sofas! Koolaid has been eradicated on my sand colored rocking chair. It cleans my laminate floors without the sticky residue, removes stains from grout lines, and of course the urine stains around the toilet. I even used it for cleaning some mold off the walls when we experienced some unusual flooding. Just spray, let set, and blot with a sponge. I would buy it by the barrel if I could. Its an absolute must have!

Bona Mop

Between the mud, spills, and accidents that happen on my floors, I spot mop daily. Spills happen and rather than sacrifice multiple trees by using an abundance of paper towels, I keep my Bona mop nearby. Here’s why I like the Bona over similar mops. It comes with a washable mop pad so there’s no waste. It’s super absorbent so your floors dry quickly (perfect for unsteady walkers) and it’s quick and easy to use. The deluxe mop also has a  refillable cleaner container which I fill with my Clorox Urine Remover.

Diaper Wipes

Even if you don’t have small bottoms to wipe, diaper wipes are a must-have. I keep them in my purse, diaper bag, and pretty much every room in my house. They’re perfect for quick surface clean-ups but are gentle and safe to use on the fragile skin of kids and elderly adults. I even use them as face wipes to take off my makeup. I buy them by the case using my Amazon Subscribe and Save (a terrific program where you get all your favorite products automatically sent to your door for a great discount. Think of an on-line Sam’s Club or Costco.) and refill all my dispensers as needed.

Baking Soda

Baking soda has been used as a cleaning agent since it’s invention. It’s a must for removing foul odors and  I made little deodorizers for my bathrooms using mason jars and cheese cloth. I make little sachets to keep in laundry baskets, cabinets, and refrigerators. I use it to deodorize my washing machine and dishwasher. I’ll also occasionally sprinkle some around the toilet or on top of mattresses/sofa/stuffed chairs to freshen them up a bit.

Purification Essential Oil

I diffuse Purification all the time. It keeps my house from smelling like a daycare/nursing home when I don’t have time to clean. You get the smell of “clean” without the chemical or manufactured smells that come with some cleaners or air fresheners. It’s my secret weapon when family or friends tell me they’re at the gate and I haven’t picked up a mop in two days. Just put a few drops in the diffuser and you’re good to go. It’s also great for getting those lingering smells out of your clothes. Just put a few drops on a wool dryer ball or on an old washcloth and toss it in the dryer with your smelliest laundry. You will be amazed! I’ve bought already mixed and ready to go from Young Living Essential Oils* (other brands have their own purification blends too) or you can make your own using this recipe.

Bonus tip

Have somewhere to be later? Anytime I have places to go but people (and a home) to keep clean, I put on an apron. I know it seems old-fashioned but it has saved me from having to change clothes a hundred times everyday. Plus it makes you feel super-motivated to get things done on the housekeeping front. I get my aprons from Flirty Aprons. They keep your clothes clean and look cute.
